Close to the large long-distance gas pipelines RWE Gas Storage West operates in Gronau-Epe, at one of the most attractive storage locations, three facilities for different gas qualities, among them the Epe L-Gas storage. Being one of only few L-Gas storages in Germany this storage with its five caverns makes an important contribution towards security of supply. The storage facility is connected to the German transmission system of Open Grid Europe in the Trading Hub Europe (THE) market area and is also connected to the TTF trading point via the Dutch transmission system of Gasunie Transport Services B.V. (GTS).
The storage Epe L-Gas will be switched completely from L-Gas to H-Gas for storage usage as part of the German market area conversion on 01/04/2026. After completion of the technical work the storage will be usable as H-Gas storage in the market under the new name “Storage Epe DE” starting in April 2026.
